New Delhi : Heavy tension in Ladakh border as Indian and Chinese soldiers were involved in a violent clash along the Line of Actual Control in the Galwan Valley, leaving a Colonel, and two jawans dead on the Indian side. The dead have been identified as Colonel B Santosh Babu, Havildar K Palani and Sepoy Ojha. Colonel B.Santosh Babu of the Bihar regiment was from Telangana. The jawans who lost their lives were Havildar Palani from Tamil Nadu and Sepoy Ojha from Jharkhand.
The Indian Army confirmed the developments and issued a statement soon in the matter. “During the de-escalation process underway in the Galwan Valley, a violent face-off took place yesterday night with casualties. The loss of lives on the Indian side includes an officer and two soldiers. Senior military officials of the two sides are currently meeting at the venue to defuse the situation,” stated the official statement by the Indian Army. China has also reported casualties after the clash.
Today, a high-level meetings held, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Home Minister Amit Shah in the evening. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh briefed PM Modi after a meeting with Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, the three military chiefs and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Rajnath Singh also met the military chiefs for the second time in the evening.
Meanwhile, China accused the Indian army of provoking and attacking Chinese soldiers after a border meeting to de-escalate the ongoing tension, leading to a “physical conflict” between the two sides on Monday.” The editor-in-chief of the Global Times, which is a Chinese government mouthpiece, tweeted, “Based on what I know, Chinese side also suffered casualties in the Galwan Valley physical clash. I want to tell the Indian side, don’t be arrogant and misread China’s restraint as being weak.”
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palnaiswami, condoling the death of Palani, announced a relief of Rs.20 lakhs for his family and also a government job to an eligible family member. He said the final rites would be performed with state honours.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has expressed his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones during the violent face-off between Indian and Chinese soldiers at the Line of Actual Control in Galwan Valley of Ladakh.
Rahul Gandhi tweeted “Words cannot describe the pain I feel for the officers and men who sacrificed their lives for our country. My condolences to all their loved ones. We stand with you in this difficult time.” Rahul tweeted.
